Touching the sun, making ART.

FACEBOOK (June 2, 2016): ARTIST RETREAT COMPLETE. I touched the sun. Amazing. At one point I erased the eye SO MANY TIMES. The original photo was low rez. I used the phone to take photos of Gary's eyes and tried to put the two, three, four together and come up with something REAL that EXPLAINED what the low rez shadows MEANT. Anyway. I DIDN'T tear the paper this time. Ha. Each day of the retreat, we take an afternoon break, share a bottle of wine and watch an art documentary. The list included: "English Soul" (Steve Winwood), "Bad Reputation" (Thin Lizzy), "Days Of Our Lives" (Queen), "As Is Now" (Paul Weller), "High Flying Birds" (Noel Gallagher), "Much Music" (Black Crows), "Destiny Rules" (Fleetwood Mac), "Imaginary Man" (Ray Davies) and "Highlights and Hangups" (Peter Weller). Watching the American artists struggle with the idea of demographics while making art ...contrasted with Chris Robinson's and Paul Weller's take on the subject, etc. etc. AND... the beautiful ironic ending note by Ray Davies blew my mind. Somewhere in the documentary you hear that he likes to create characters and display them. Contrast this thought with the "character" he is "playing" ...? ....in the interview. And then hear him say at the very end that THEY will leave out the best parts and you will only see the highlights and bits of him that don't end up on the editing floor...you will SEE "imaginary man".... and realize that Ray has bought the idea of an imaginary friend... from a private moment...into a fully realized and accepted delusion (the kind we SEE every day). Amazing. AND... watching Freddy make ART all the way to the end. These docs were about musicians. About ART. Crazy. I touched the sun. See the drawing... where it is now. NEXT
